Cake

The leaked Barclays memos, in which the company's tax planning/avoidance/mitigation/evasion*  is laid bare, reveal that Barclays' external tax advisers are the same City firm of solicitors which is retained by the government to advise it on the consequences of the global financial meltdown.

Elsewhere, it has now been announced that another City firm of solicitors has been appointed as the first external contractor to conduct litigation on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.

With these City law firms (and, indeed, the Big 4 also) not only  having escaped scrutiny for  their part  in the activities of the big corporates over recent years, but now also being paid to deal with the consequences of those same activities, does this not prove that it is, indeed, possible to have your cake and to eat it also ?
