Taxpayers' Charter

Following the consultation last year, HMRC has issued the first draft of a new charter setting out the rights and obligations of the taxpaying public.  Despite it being only the Revenue who continue to believe the term to be appropriate, the charter will be known as the Customers' Charter in order that it might be seen to encompass not only taxpayers but tax claimants also.  Doubtless, everyone else will continue to refer to the Taxpayers' Charter.

At this stage, it would appear that the short form of charter will be favoured, as is the case in Ireland.  The Irish charter can be viewed here.
