Equitable liability to remain

It is has been announced that equitable liability is to remain, and will be codified at the next opportunity.  A seemingly small but, nevertheless, very important victory for right thinking people.

And a hard earned success for the Chartered Institute of Taxation, who were so concerned that they devoted a huge chunk of this year’s Finance Bill representations to the issue.  Oh, no, hang on a sec. That was on the SAddO provisions instead.

All credit rightfully goes to only two people.  Keith Gordon and Mike Truman, editor of Taxation magazine.

On the one hand, it is a shame that those taxpayers who most stand to benefit from their efforts in the future will neither know, nor care, that someone, somewhere, once stood up on their behalves. On the other, well, is that not the point.
